peplers.blogspot.com This video shows you how to use a chainsaw to make a one-piece stool from a log, no nails, screws glue or joints required. It also doubles as a small saw bench! I can’t claim to have invented this myself though, I learned it while doing chainsaw and tree felling training with David Rossney of Esus Forestry. Be warned, this guzzles fuel – I can get two stools made from one tank. It’s also good to start with a sharp chain, as there’s a lot of cutting to do. Obviously I need to say here that you shouldn’t be using a chainsaw unless you’ve had some training, either from an official trainer or a forestry expert you happen to know. Also, you should have all the protective equipment – chainsaw trousers and boots, gloves, helmet, visor and ear defenders. I recently purchased a MK lll Alaskan chainsaw mill made by Granberg to start cutting the trees I fell last summer into usable timbers for our cabin. This is hard work however I am more that pleased with the results. The trees I am cutting are second growth Douglas fire and will make excellent beams for out timber framed cabin. The Granberg MK lll chainsaw mill requires the the use of a very large chainsaw. I have been using the Stihl 041 however I fell this chainsaw is a bit undersized the Stihl 066 would be a better choice. I am also using a special ripping chain I had custom ground by Dicks Logging supply in Estacada Oregon. Once the large timbers are cut I load them onto my truck with our excavator and take them home. Once Home I complete all the layout and notching for the timber frame cabin. Once all the timbers are completed I’ll bring them back up to our Off-grid homestead project site and start the assembly. A quick review and Refuel of the Stihl MS200T a 2.1hp saw with a 16″ bar. It weighs in at 10 lbs fully load with bar, chain, fuel, and oil. I pre-mix all of my fuel, I try to find 91 or 93 octane and mix that 50:1 with Stihl ultra 2 cycle Oil. These saws can be damaged by using fuels with high ethanol content. so higher quality gas is recomended by the dealers and mechanics. I am cutting roughly 16″ x 16″ live red oak rounds with 16″ bar not easy but the saw powers though them nice and clean. Thanks For watching Please Rate, Comment, And Subscribe
